After having spent the whole day on getting to Murcia we felt heartily welcomed by both students and teachers of LES Licencido Francisco Cascales.

On the first day we were introduced to the country’s  and school’s history and traditions, presented by the students in the school’s historic room. As the topic of this year’s Erasmus+ program deals with ‚Shaping the Future‘ we also got introduced to the topic focusing on ‚Volunteering‘ which the students were to work on for the next couple of days.

But of course part of the program always involves sightseeing, which is important for getting to know the country and its customs. On Monday and Tuesday we explored the city of Murcia with its famous cathedral, the casino (much liked picture taking spot) and a visit to the town education manager Senora Belèn Lòpez.

After school teachers and students spent some together, doing separate programs for getting to know each other while eating and exploring the surrounding. Yes, eating is definitely part of the culture in Spain, you will never be hungry there enjoying the ensaladillas, zarangollo, ensalada murciana, pastel de carne and many other dishes.

Additionally a hiking tour on Relojero (teachers) proved to be very entertaining and enjoyable with awesome surroundings, even an arcoiris (rainbow) to be seen. The students also told about being very nicely cared for by their hosts, individually as well as in groups.

One of the highlights of the week was the trip to Cartagena and the Parque Regional Salinas de San Pedro where we all experienced the feeling of the sea, the flamingos diving for food in the salinas with their feet flapping and the first mosquitoes of the year. Of course also the cultural program was very impressive, the amphitheatre and the remains of the Forum Romanum showing history at its best.

At the end of the week the students presented their projects very successfully, having found new friends and having experienced how different nationalities can work well together. So this week with Spanish, Polish, Czech Republican and Austrian students and teachers participating came to an end.

Hasta luego!
